Action is being taken to convert the Fire Fighting service of the Jaffna Municipal Council into a top grade service. The Municipal Council sources said that, the Municipal Council had requested the World Bank to provide a more modern Fire Fighting vehicle.
It was further said that the service is currently using only one vehicle. As one vehicle is inadequate, action is being taken to put the vehicle that was out of service into good order. More staff will recruited and more fire fighting vehicles will be obtained and the service will be put into top gear, they said.
The need for an effective Fire Fighting services was strongly felt following the debacle at Killinochchi, where more than 90 shops were gutted guzzling tens of millions worth of goods in the flames.
