Action taken to put Myliddy Fisheries Harbour into operation soon, says Sivagnanasothy,  Secretary to Ministry of Reconciliation

The Secretary to the Ministry of National Reconciliation, said that the Myliddy fisheries Harbour will be renovated and put into operation soon.

He had stated in a press release he had sent that the Myliddy Fisheries Harbour had made massive contribution to National economy during the pre-war period by way of fishery products. However its facilities had been destroyed by the war.

The harbour and the accompanying land area of 54 acre were handed over to the District Secretary, Jaffna during July 2017.

This harbour provided 1/3 of the National catch.1,500 families depended on it for their livelihood.

It had in the past had secured the 2nd place among the most productive Harbours in Sri Lanka.

It is intended to renovate and put into full scale operation Myliddy harbour.

Renovation of break water, deepening of harbour  floor, including approach way, construction of platform wall and light house, and other facilities along the shore, and the Fuel refilling station are to be effected under a project by Ministry National Reconciliation in conjunction with Ministry of Fisheries and Aqua Resources, he had said.
