ADB to grant US$ 65 million for Development of Fisheries in the North

Asian Development Bank has consented to grant US $65 million for the sustainable Fisheries Development Projects to be carried out in Jaffna, Mullaitheevu Kilinochchi and Mannar Districts.

The needs and requirements of the fisheries Societies had been found out, it is reported.

A meeting was held with the Fishermen Cooperatives Societies at the District Secretariat regarding the Fisheries Development Projects to be undertaken under funds to be provided by the ADB.

Development of Fisheries harbours, Anchoring points, landing points, Marine Resource development projects for, Crabs, Prawns and Beach-de mer, micro finances to women for raising their livelihoods and preserving the coastal resources are included in this Project.

Projects identified from 249 Grama Officer divisions will be included in this Project, draft of which will be finalized in January 2017.

NPC Minister of Cooperatives, P.Ainkaranesan, The SEcretary to Ministry of Resettlement V.Sivagnnasothy, Project Director,N.Pugendran, ADB Project Management expert Nishanthy Manjula Samarasinghe and  Project Resource Person, Kowry Palani  provided the discourses on the Project.
