“Aekeeya Rachchya” is Unitary State – Powers to be granted not enough for Tamil People – CM, C.V.Wigneswaran

“Aekeeya Rachchya” is Unitary State – Powers to be granted not enough for Tamil People – CM, C.V.Wigneswaran

We are clear in that, only the Federal system will grant adequate powers to Tamil People. “Aekeeya Rachchya” will only mean Unitary State system. The powers proposed by the Government are not adequate for Tamil People, said the Northern Chief Minister, Justice C.V.Wigneswaran.

Only a Political Constitution based on Federal System could grant adequate powers to Tamil People. Whatever that is given Tamils under unitary system, power of the majority people will dominate.  Whoever who has the dominant power could do anything. For example, the High Court had separated the North and East which were merged for 18 years, for some reason. Thus, whatever powers granted under Unitary State system could be revoked legally.

That is why we are clamouring for federal systems in other countries. If a situation is created, where, each race is given separate unit and the units will not intervene in the powers granted to others,  all of us could get together in  running this country.

We have never demanded that the country should be split. Quebec in Canada and Scotland have rejected secession.  If what is needed by us is given to us, we have no need to secede. The Interim Report should be viewed in this context. It has many inadequacies, he said.
