After the end of the war, 998 families have returned from India, says the statistics of Jaffna DS

In the five years after the end of the was 998 families have returned from India and settled in 15 DS Divisions of the district the statistics of the District Secretariat had revealed. Thousands of families from North and East displaced from Sri Lanka due to war and were staying in camps and houses of friends and relatives in neighbouring India.

They have now started to return home following the situation here improving for the better.

Between 2002 and 2014, UNHCR India has assisted about 12,500 Lankan refugees in voluntary repatriation. Since January, a total of 315 refugees returned home.
