Indian government had signed an agreement for providing 3 billion rupees for projects aimed at Academic development of students and providing physical resources needed by them, like, Buildings, Furniture and equipment said the Indian Consulate.
This agreement was signed by the Indian Ambassador Y.K.Sinha, with a private Economic Firm LINK which is about to proceed into the projects worth 2.3 billion in the presence of the Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education, P.Ranepura,the Vice-Chancellor of University of Jaffna, Proffessor Vasanthy Arasaratnam, The Dean of the Agricultural Faculty, Proff. Mihunthan, The deputy Registrar of the University of Jaffna, Rajavishakan and other officials.
This agreement was signed in Colombo on 11th of this month.
The Indian Government has undertaken to contribute to the development of the Higher Education Sector, and this agreement is signed to provide a Skill development Centre to the Agricultural Faculty of the University of Jaffna.
Auditoriums, Lecture halls Sports and Computer centres, Library and toilets are to be constructed with the above grant and the work on this project is expected to be completed within an year and the project will be monitored jointly by the Indian high-Commissioner’s office and the Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka.
