In an exclusive interview granted to a Northern media the ex-President Chandrika Bandaranayake , who was the President during the 1990s , confessed that the attack on Navaly St.Peter’s Church was a big mistake and the Government and the a Army should take responsibility over it. She also said that the church was attacked instead of an LTTE base nearby.
Regarding release of lands, she said that of a total of 11,700 acre which was under the control of the forces nearly 7,700 acres had been already released. Around 4,600 to 4,700 acre are still under the control of forces. Around 700 acre could be released. Hence the amount of land under the forces had been reduced to 4,000 acre which had been pointed out to be needed for security concerns.
Answering question on TPPs, she said about 100 of them are with serious charges with evidences to prove them. I don’t think they could be released. If you the army to be punished, why not the army of Prabaharan be punished she counter questioned.
