The alternate Project drafted for solving the drinking water problem of Jaffna Peninsula will be put into implementation on the 30th.
The project designed to be completed last August had to be commence at the end of this month because of the blockades of the Wild Life Department.
For a long time now, the drinking water problem of the Jaffna Peninsula has been a matter for discussion. Several proposals such as bringing water from Iranamadu, desalination of sea water at Vadamaradchchi East were put forward. However, they were never materialized due to political uncertainty.
In this context, a plan was drafted by the name of “Alternate drinking water Project” which will reservoir water in the Vadamaradchchi Lagoon and will distribute it. This project will cost around 2,000 Million.
