The fasting protest against banning Thileepan’s Commemoration by the Government, was held sentimentally at the Sivan Kovil premises at Chavakacheri.
The Tamil Parties gathered at Chavakacheri Sivan Kovil blasting off all bans to hold the Fasting protest sentimentally.
Point Pedro courts had earlier issued ban on commemorating Thileepan. Mallakam Court also had issued ban on the commemoration. In this context, yesterday’s fasting protest was held in opposition to oppressing the basic right of the Tamil people to commemorate their dead.
In this context, around 30 stalwarts from Tamil Parties gathered at the Chavakacheri Sivan Kovil and commenced the Fasting Protest. Being informed of the fasting protest is in progress police rushed to the spot and tried to stop the protest. However many more Tamil people and politicians rushed to the venue to participate in the protest. Hundreds of people including, Parliamentarians, former Parliamentarians, members of Local Government bodies came in to participate in the protest.
A silent tribute was paid at 10.40 a.m. , the time of Partheepan’s death.
The protest started at 9.00 a.m. and concluded at 5 p.m. with the wife of former MP, Late Raviral’s wife Sasikala drinking fruit drink. The others followed suit and the fasting protest was brought to a conclusion.
