Ancient Artillery piece recovered near Trincomalee Hospital
An Ancient Artillery piece has been recovered from a land near Trincomalee Hospital. Ground was dug yesterday to lay the foundation for a new building for the Accident Emergency Unit.
A part of an ancient Artillery was recovered during the excavations. Following the police being informed of this Artillery, a police team led by OIC, Harbour police, Jagath Amaravansa had inspected the piece and informed about it to the Archaeological Department.
This Artillery , around 10′ long could have been used during the Colonial periods, the officers said. It is said that Trincomalee was a capitol during the rule of Tamil Kings in Tricomalee of yesteryears.
