Jaffna District Manager of the National Housing and Development Authority said yesterday that another 29,000 houses are needed in the Jaffna District. He said this in a media conference held at the Jaffna District office of the National Housing and Development Authority, yesterday morning.
Elaborating further he said that in the period from 2015 to 2019, 4,717 houses had been built under 159 model villages scheme, in Jaffna District. Further houses were built and given to the people under the Indian housing scheme.
At present 29,000 houses are still needed. This number has been confirmed based on the data from Divisions, he said.
Even after 10 years from the end of the war, the shortage in housing numbering to 29,000 be allowed to prevail, one media man asked.
In reply the Manager said that need for housing in on the increase. The increase in the number of families is the reason for this.
