Another catastrophe strikes the final battleground- Drinking water sold at 1/= per litre

All the families in Anandapuram, one of the battle fields where the final war was waged, has been pushed into a situation where they have to purchase their drinking water.

Around 250 families are living in this area, where water in their wells have changed to saline  and chaffron coloured. Unable to drink this water the people are compelled to buy their drinking water at Rs.1 per litre.

This village created as a colonization village in 1959, is a saline area and water has been supplied in bowsers by the Divisional Secretariat.

Hayleys company had provided a de- salinating pump which has been blessing to this village and Rs.1/= is charged from the people for the expenditures related to the pump said, Raja Thirumany, the leader of Anananda Organization which handle the operation of the pump.

People come here from places such as, Visuvamadu, Iranaipalai, Puthukkudiyiruppu,Pokkanai Mathalan, Valaignar Madam, Kaively and Thevipuram to get water. We are supplying around 4000 litres per day and have placed water tanks in 15 adjacent villages and sell water at a low price. The Water supply scheme planned for Ananthapuram by National water Supplies and Drainage Board has stooped at Puthukudiyiruppu, he further said.
