Tamil National Allance Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiranhas stated that the appointment of Mohan Peiris was bad in law. He was speaking on the opposition motion on Ranil Wickremasinghe’s statement on CJ issue.
Sumanthiran continued that the President is vested with powers to remove a chief justice. For that purpose a motion should be passed in Parliament. But when you removed Shirani Bandaranayake no such motion was passed; only a motion to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee was passed. Thus, appointment of Mohan Peiris was bad in law.
