Archaeological Department  occupies Thennaimaravady Kanthasamy Malai Sivan Temple

The residents of Thenaimaravady accused that the Archaeological Department had occupied the Thennaimaravady Kanthasamy Malai Sivan Temple and action is being undertaken to construct a Buddhist vihare.

Although this temple is around 600 years old Hindu devotees had been prevented from renovating the Temple or make worship there, by the Archaeological Department which had occupied it. They are even prohibited to go to the premises.

The people had appealed that, relevant officials to intervene and obtain this temple for worship of the people.

Although, the village is now called Thenaimaravady, some informed sources say that this village is of the Period of Chera regime and originally called “Thonnai Maran Vady”, Thonnai Maran being a Chera dynasty lineage name.
