Archaeology Department orders out 69 families in Mannar/Malikaipiddy

The Archeological Department has ordered 69 families from Mannar/Malikaipiddy, who are living there for more than 40 years.

People have been asked vacate the village saying that there is a 2,000 years old building id found there. Archaeological Department official are forcing people who are living within 500 meters from this dilapidated building found with ancient ruins, said the people who are being affected by this order.

People who were displaced by war had settled back. All their houses are destroyed in war. Currently people had constructed new houses and living in them and it is in this context that the department officers are forcing people on daily basis to vacate the area.

Although, we have complained to relevant officers, it is of no avail. No permission had been granted to plant trees in our lands. AS we are not even allowed to plant house garden we are encountering several problems. Although we have permits for our lands Officers are bent on expelling us, they said.

They request that relevant officers and politicians should intervene in this and deliver a due solution they said.
