The  Army Cannot be allowed into the Fort, Jaffna DDC decides

The Jaffna DDC has decided that Army should not allowed into Jaffna Fort. Further, the Army men stationed now also should go out, it had decided.

The DDC meeting was held yesterday at the auditorium of the Jaffna District Secretariat, yesterday, presided by Co-Chairs, NPC CM, C.V.Wigneswaran and  MPs, Mawai Senarthyrasa and Wijekala Maheswaran. It has become known that approval had been given to construct an Army Camp within the Fort. What is the true position of this matter? When Duraiyappa Stadium was renovated the Archeological department was continuously saying that part of the Fort premises within the stadium. Then how come the Army is being allowed to construct a camp inside the Fort?, asked the people’s representatives.

The Officer of the Archaeological Department said in reply that a small camp of 20 Army men was found inside the Queen’s Palace. Now we are renovating the Queen’s Palace. The Army asked for permission to construct a temporary camp near the Queen’s Palace, and their request was granted. And we are to establish a Museum in Queen’s Palace, he said.

On what you say, it seems that the Army is attempting to stay in on various excuses, pointed out the CM.

MPc, Sivajilingam expressing his opinion said that allowing the Army into the Fort, amounts to giving the camel space to put in the head into a tent. Are we to hold protest rallies at the Fort entrance, after all things had happened. Hence Army cannot be allowed in. If it is necessary, let police be there till the renovations are completed. After the completion they must also go out.

Hence, this should be informed to relevant persons. Army cannot be allowed into the Fort. The army detachment already inside should go out, it was decided in the DDC meeting.
