Assistance and cooperation of India is essential for a Federal solution , says Wigneswaran

Former CM, NPC, Justice Wigneswaran is to participate in a discussion under the title of “ The current status of the 13th  Amendment and the Role of India” with Pa. Ma. Ja  deputy Leader, Mrs. Vanathy Srinivasan and Retired Indian Foreign Service Officer, Nadarajan, through a video conference.

Media men asked Wigneswaran  whether this means Wigneswaran has acknowledged 13th Amendment.

Commenting on the query, Wigneswaran has said that, Mrs Srinivasan had requested him, whether he could participate in this conference and place forward his opinion on 13th. As I considered that as the 13th is a subject of discussion , it is my duty to share my experiences and opinion regarding the 13th, I consented to participate in the discussion.

I don’t think that there is any connection between this and Prime Minister Mody insisting about the 13th with Mahindha Rajapakse.

But I am clear in one thing. The assistance and cooperation of India is essential if Tamil people are to get a solution based on Federal system in Sri Lanka.  Cordial relationship of Tamil people with the Indian Government is essential. We have to hold negotiations with the Indian Government. However our approach towards India could not and should not be related to an individual or a single party.

The current Indian Minister for Foreign Relations, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is a well versed person in Sri Lankan Affairs and we hope the Indian Officials will handle the matter well.

As far I am concerned, the removal of PCs in N&E without establishing a federal system based solution here amounts to suicide. I feel it is my duty to elaborate opinions like this to Indian Officials and this is a good opportunity for that.
