Attention drawing rally in Vavuniya for Vanni University, Large number of people participate

A large attention drawing rally with the participation of large number of people calling that the President should upgrade the Vavuniya Campus to a full-fledged University of Vanni. This rally was organized by the Teachers’ union of the Vavuniya campus.

The rally with people belonging to several sectors of the society and large number people commenced from the Kurumankadu Science Faculty premises at around 10.00 a.m. It proceeded along Vavuniya Railway Station Road and the city roads and reached the District Secretariat,Vavuniya.

Large number of people without any party discrimination including the students and teachers of Vavuniya Campus, Capus employees, Advanced level students, Vanni District MPs, Provincial Minister of Health, and MPcs. The teachers union had insisted the need for upgrading the campus which hitherto operating under the University of Jaffna, and without direct financial allocations, in  a press release they had issued.

Formed as an Affiliated University college in 1991, it was upgraded as a Campus of the University of Jaffna in 1996. Although four Similar Campuses were  upgraded as Universities, Vavuniya Campus was not upgraded although 25 years had passed from its inception, they had said.
