People in the North are cooperating with us to safe guard the National Security, but the attitude of the soldiers who was engaged in the final war had not changed, said the Northern Commander of the Army, Major General Mahes Senanayake. He was answering questions of media men in a Media conference held at the Army HQ in Palaly on 27th of this month.
No surveillance is made on Tamil Journalist now. If it is said so it is only a rumour he said. These kinds of opinion had spread because there is no close contact between the Army and the journalists.
The soldiers fought in the war and in the final war are still serving in the Army. Their attitudes are little different we are undertaking projects to create a cordial atmosphere between soldiers and the public. Army retained lands of people, and it is our responsibility to return the lands to the people.
We cannot tow party lines as political parties. After regime change there is no environment threatening National Security in the North. With the full cooperation of Navy and Air Force we are undertaking security work in the North, he said.
