The police is back dragging the case of attack on Jaffna Court complex. Hence the suspects need not attend court until the police file the charge sheets, ordered the courts, while postponing the case and rebuking the police for back dragging the case.
A protest rally demanding justice to atrocities committed against the Pungudutheevu student Vidya was held on 20.05.2015. Following the rally the Jaffna court complex was attacked allegedly by “Outsiders” in the guise of protestors.
The courts complex was subjected to stone pelting attack and pandemonium reigned around court complex. The Police and STF were massed at the spot and they tear gassed the “Protestors”.
More than 100 people were arrested and later they were released on bail in stages. A case is progressing against 72 of them in the Jaffna Magistrate courts.
Three years had passed after incident but the police are lethargic in completing the case and back dragging the case. Police should obtain the instructions of AG’s Department and file the charge sheets against the suspects. Until such time the suspects need not be present in the courts.
When the summons come they should be present in the court, ordered the Magistrate Court Magistrate Sinnathurai Sathees Tharan. Case was postponed to October 30th.
