Former Economic Development Affairs Minister Basil Rajapaksa left for Dubai early this morning together with his wife, the media unit of President Maithripala Sirisena said.
Rajapaksa and his wife had boarded an Emirates flight at the Katunayake airport and left for Dubai. Several other former Government Ministers and Parliamentarians are also reported to have left Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says he has no intention of leaving Sri Lanka and will monitor the progress of the promises made by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Rajapaksa said that his party still has the majority in Parliament and yet a Prime Minister has been appointed from a coalition which is a minority in Parliament.
The former President said this while meeting his supporters after returning to his hometown in Medamulana after losing the Presidential elections.
Rajapaksa said that Sirisena won the election as a result of the support he got from “Eelam” in the North and not the support of the majority.
The former President said that he still has the support of the majority and anytime they want another election he will back that call.
