When Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe undertook a visit to Mannar to open the new district Secretariat, the relatives of the people made to disappear held a black flag demonstration outside the District Secretariat premise.
When the Prime Minister reached the venue at around 9.00 a.m., the demonstrators breached the security arrangements to demonstrate against the Prime Minister.
Earlier, on hearing about the visit of Prime Minister, the relatives had sought the District Secretary to arrange for a meeting with the PM. But as the Secretary failed give them permission to meet the PM , the relatives had engaged in the protest demonstration.
When the PM came out to hoist the National Flag, the protestors waved black flags and shouted slogans.
Later the representatives of the demonstrators were called in for a meeting with a representative of the PM, the secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Minister Rishad Badi-ud-deen, where they handed over a memorandum.
