Bomb Attack on bus – former militant sentenced to 93 life imprisonments

The Colombo High Courts has sentenced yesterday a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Satchithananthan Anantha Sukar alias Lawrence Davidraj alias Vasanthan, who was found guilty for targeting a claymore attack on a Sri Lanka Transport Board bus and causing the death of 30 persons and serious injuries to 42 persons to life imprisonment.

Pointing out that this is a barbarous crime and that the victims were returning home from work, the Senior State Counsel, Asath Navavy requested the Court to impose maximum punishment on the accused.

After considering the submissions and in a context where all 94 counts in the charge being proved beyond doubt sentenced the accused to rigorous life sentences to each of the 93 counts and a ten year RI for damaging the SLTB Bus bearing No: 63-4170.

The accused was charged with plotting the attack on the bus along with one Thavan and others who are not known to the Prosecution.

Satchchithananthan had been sentenced after him being in the remand for 10 years.

Another person who had been accused with Satchchithananthan had died during the course of the trial.
