A Border Security Force ASI was injured as small arms fire and mortar shelling by Pakistani Rangers spread from R S Pura sector to Arnia sector on Wednesday.Identifying the injured as Assistant Sub Inspector A K Upadyay, sources said that with this the number of injured in Pakistani firing during the last 24 hours has risen to 12. Intense firing is on in Sai Kalan, Bure Jaal, Treva and Arnia, they added.
While the ceasefire violation came in Arnia sector during wee hours of Wednesday, it has been going on in R S Pura sector for the last five days. Two people including a BSF personnel and a six-year-old boy have died and nearly two dozen people including three BSF personnel injured so far in Pakistani firing and mortar shelling so far.
The BSF has been retaliating to the Pakistani mortar shelling with equal intensity inflicting heavy damages on the Pakistani side as well, sources said.
However, the continued mortar shelling which started along the borders after BSF foiled an infiltration bid by a group of terrorists at Bobiya in Hiranagar sector on the intervening night of October 19-20 had led to panic among villagers. While the authorities have asked villagers not to venture out of their houses during shelling, the latter appear concerned about the harvesting of the standing paddy crop.
“The Pakistani Rangers are targeting us even in our homes, what to speak of working in the fields which are closer to the borders,’’ said Gurinderjeet Singh of Treva(THE INDIAN EXPRESS,2016).
