After the removal of the small Army Camp the existed near the Iranaimadu Tank, the Army hasalso removed the Buddha statue that was installed in the Camp.
After end of the war, the Army occupied the Engineer’s office of the Iranaimadu Tank and installed a Buddha statue for their worship and that of the large number of Southern people who visited the tank. It is this statue that has been removed now.
Development work of the Tank is being carried out now with the financial aid of Rs.3,000 Million by the Asian Development Bank. Because of the Development and renovation work, the Army has shifted the Army Camp that was operating in the Engineers office to another place.
Even after the camp was shifted, the Buddhist temple remained near the bund. Now the statue has been removed by the Army as it was posing hindrance to the development work.
