The Cabinet has approved President’s proposals to abolish Executive Presidency and introduction of a new Electoral System.
The two Cabinet papers propose to abolish the Executive presidency and amending the electoral system.
A committee headed by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is to be appointed to finalise the process and draft an amendment while the President instructed the PM to name the committee.
External Affairs, North Western Development and Cultural Minister S.B. Navinna said the Cabinet has approved the two documents.
Cabinet also approved proposal to introduce voucher system for School Children’s uniforms instead of giving them clothing.
The President gave a pledge to carry out these reforms on the day of Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera’s funeral.
