A call has been put out for a hartal till noon, tomorrow Monday, insisting to stop catching Beach de mer in Vadamaradchchi seas. As a grand Rally also to be held by the Federation of Fishing Associations, all factions had been requested to Cooperate.
In a press conference held yesterday at the Federation’s office, its President, Thavaselvam put out this call.
Elaborating further he said, Several struggles are being undertaken against the catching of Beach de mer. We request that the shops be shut till noon tomorrow. Auto drivers Society, Coop Societies and Chamber of Commerce are also requested to cooperate with us. The rally will start from our office and proceed towards District Secretariat, Jaffna, where memorandums will be handed over to the District Secretary and Governor.
128 Societies and 10 Federations have pledged support for this rally. We have been pushed into a situation where we ourselves had to struggle to reach solutions to the problems of our fishermen. Hence our fishermen are to boycott fishing tomorrow.
If no solution is achieved through our non-violent struggles, we will intimate the position to foreign Ambassadors, he said.
