In the context of the 3 TPPs undertaking fasting protest demanding not to transfer their case from Vavuniya Courts, the Attorney General’s Department has sent a letter asking Vavuniya Court to transfer the case of the TPPs, which was being heard in the Vavuniya Courts for 4 years.
However, the President had promised earlier in writing to MP, Sivasakthy Ananthan that the case would be heard in Vavuniya Court.
The Vavuniya Court had earlier decided to hold then hearing continuously for 3 days as from the 25th and had issued summons for 70 witnesses. It is in this context the AG department has send the above letter.
Rasathurai Thiruvaran alias Senkannan, Mathyalakan Sulaxan and Ganeshan Tharsan had been detained for the last 8 years in Prison. The case against them were filed in the Vavuniya High Courts in 2013. Case is being continued. Earlier, the AG’s Department took action to transfer the case to Anuradhapura and following the TPPs undertaking fast unto death protest the Vavuniya HC Judge Sasi Mahendran announced a date for the case to be heard in Vavuniya courts. The TPPs gave up their protest subsequent to this date fixing.
Meanwhile the TID had announced that the witnesses of this case had been threatened and that they have commenced an investigation on it. But the relatives of the TPPs revealed that the TID had asked the said witnesses to give letters that they had been threatened, 4 months ago and the witnesses themselves told them so. The relatives said that this accusation is brought in to transfer the case to Anuradhapura.
It is in this context that the AG’s Department has sent a letter asking the case to be transferred to Anuradhapura.
