Sri Lanka has failed to give a practical form to the promises given in Geneva. This is a condemnable act. While The UNHRC Commissioner had said that serious action should be taken on Sri Lanka, and the international Community should continue to monitor it, the spokesperson of TYNA M.A. Sumanthiran said.
This time a resolution should be adopted on Sri Lanka and any time given to Sri Lanka , it may be one or two or three years but the Task of monitoring should be given to UNHRC is our insistence on behalf of our people.
Answering a question regarding the TNA holding different stance from other parties, he said that, we have not asked to give time to Sri Lanka first time or this time. what we asked is that the UNHRC monitoring be extended.
It is very essential that the monitoring should be extended else the UNHRC will lose its mandate to monitor the situation here. If the monitoring is not there there will be no mechanism to control Sri Lanka, he said.
