The President of the Jaffna Chamber of Commerce, R.Jeyasekaram has requested the department of Local Government, not to allow the southern traders into North during festival days, as the economy of Northern traders has fallen down.
Southern and foreign traders engage in trading during festival days. A resolution was passed in the Northern Provincial Council banning this. Certain statute activities had been planned and sent to all Departments of LG by the Commissioner of Local Government. Hence the Department LG should take action accordingly, he said.
The traders from other district do not pay any Tax and engage in business freely. On the contrary, Northern Fishermen pay Tax and hence the Dept. LG should protect the Northern traders, he said.
Several traders have committed suicide due to Economical crisis and setbacks in their trade activities.
We are obliged to protect our traders. Hence the LG Department should take action to ban the business of out side traders , special during the period April to September during which time migrated people will come back here, he said.
