A claymore attack was made targeting Police personnel engaged in Road checking near the Jaffna- Vadamaradchchi- Vallipuraq Alvar Temple at around 7.10 a.m. yesterday.
A police officer was injured in this attack. Police had expressed suspicion that sand smugglers may have made this attack to threaten the police officers.
Balls and pieces of wire were found at the site of the explosion. The Police and the Army had commenced inquiries regarding the incident.
It is the routine of the police to undertake checking activities at the spot to prevent sand smuggling. The explosion had occurred while the police officers were engaged in this task as usual, yesterday.
The police commented that the claymore used is a locally made one and of low strength.
