Coastal villages of Puthukudiyiruppu transforming into saline lands

Public Organisations have insisted that coastal villages that are transforming into saline areas should be identified and action should be taken to prevent salination by constructing anti- salination dikes. Sea water that come in through Salai is making the villages of Iranaipalai and  Ananthapuram  into saline areas. There is a danger of sea coming in due to the uncontrolled sand mining in Moogilaru.

Although requests were made in the meetings held at Mulaitheevu District Secretariat and the Puthukudiyiruppu Divisional Secretariat to construct anti- salination dikes across Saalai, no action had been taken.

Dangers of lands getting salinated, useful trees dying and drinking water shortage in Puthukudiyiruppu areas are pointed out by them.
