While Rs. 90,050,000/= has allocated at Rs.500,000/= per family for a housing scheme for the 190 families living in the Government employees housing scheme in Omanthai area. Further action has been taken to make good other shortcomings in the scheme.
In the 2011, 700 government employees who were living without lands or houses in Vavuniya District were given ¼ acre land each and were asked to build their own houses. But only 65 families have built their houses and settled in them. All other lands were overgrown with shrubs.
In this context, the people of this scheme got into the road and held a demonstration placing forward their difficulties. Consequently the Vavuniya unit old the National Housing Authority had visited the spot and evaluated the situation. During their inspections 190 families among the 700 settlers had been identified as of minor staff. Now, these 190 families are to be provided with Rs. 500,000/= each for building their houses, under the “Hamatama Sevena” (Shelter for all) project of the National Housing Authority.
