Only this combined government could eradicate the poison seed that is racism: CM, NPC

The enmity and the strife among the races of the country is a poisonous seed sowed by politicians and people with backward ideas. Only this combined government could eradicate that poisonous seed, said the Chief Minister, NPC, C.V.Wigneswaran.

The foundation stone for “Aalikumaran” Ananthan memorial Swimming pool was laid yesterday morning at Revadi beach in Valveddithurai.

Speaking further he said The racism in this country is the poisonous seed sowed by the politicians and backward thinkers. The government should come forward to eradicate this poisonous seed. It is possible only by this combined Government. All should come forward without any discrimination to exert pressure on the Government. If only the wrong ideas are changed, we could solve the political problems, I believe.

Former Foreign Minister and the current Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera had come all the way from Colombo for organization of the construction of this Swimming pool in memory of Aalikumaran Ananthan.

The wife of Ananthan , Manel Ananthan is a close relative of  Mangala Samaraweera.

Ananthan is a creator of more than 20 records 7 of which are recorded in Guinness book of records.

The first record was swimming from Valveddithurai to Kodikarai in one stretch in 1963. Prior to him Late Navaratnasamy became the first man to swim Palk Straits in 1954.

In 1971 Ananthan Swam from Thalai Mannar to India and back to Thalaimannar after a 10 minutes rest at Thanuskody in 51 hours and 35 minutes, he said.
