The 30th commemoration of Thiyaga Theepam Thileepan was held with unprecedented sentimentalism, for the first time after 2009 in the Motherland. Red and yellow flags flattered all over the Motherland and reverberated with liberation songs of good olden days. It was like one of the pre 2009 days with large number of People’s participation.
The day of commemoration started with homage paying by massive crowd people at the spot where Thileepan melted himself to death to unmask the IPKF and the Indian Government, and then the people marched to the memorial behind the Nallur Temple and paid their homage there.
A former Militant, Kanthaiah Prabaharan paid his tribute by coming all the way from Kaithadu Kuddy Pillaiyar Kovil to the Thileepan memorial in Nallu hanging by hooks from a “Thooku Kavady” holding Red and yellow flags in his hands. He garlanded the memorial from the Kavady itself and again garlanded the memorial after getting off the Kavady. People were highly moved by this gesture, seeing it done after nearly 10 years.
