Commemorative Tower in memory of 21 School Children killed in Aerial Bombing in Nagar Kovil

The anniversary of the 21 school children who were killed in the aerial bombing by Sri Lanka Air Force was held at Nagarkovil yesterday with sentimental participation of large number of people.

A memorial tower erected at the site of the horrible killing was ceremoniously declared open by the CM, NPC, C.V.Wigneswaran. Earlier the parents of the children who were killed and other invitees including the CM were conducted in procession to the site of the memorial, with the school band in attendance. The day’s events were presided by the NPC Member S.Sugirthan.

The CM declared open the Memorial Tower with the photographs of the killed children. Later ceremonial lamps were lighted in memory of children. First lamp was lighted by the CM. Other lamps were lighted by the VIPs present, including, MP, Sritharan, Members of the NPC, the Leader of the opposition, Thavarajah. Parents followed suit in lighting lamps and floral tributes. Tears flooded the area around the tower. Parents also planted rose plants around the tower, with tears flowing.

The first copy of a book published in memory of the children was handed over by the CM to veteran ITAK member, Kuruswamy and the first copy of the calendar published was handed over by MP Sritharan to The Head of the English Department of the University of Jaffna, Paranthaman.

More wailing were heard while Mahendran , the Principal at the time of the bombing described the pathetic situation at the time of the bombing.

The CM, in his speech said that the merciless, inhuman and barbaric act of the government against our innocent children had made the government to stand with bowed head in front of International Society. We must  continue to remember our dead so that the world will know what actually happened.
