The teachers of the pre-schools operated by the Civil Defence Department had been compelled to undergo Military training and they are leaving their posts because of this accused the MPc, E. Arnold.
A Proposal was placed in the yesterday’s sitting of the NPC, regarding increase of the wages to the Pre-School teachers. E. Arnold, the MPc speaking of the proposal said that The Army is running Pre-Schools in some places. They are paid a monthly salary of Rs.34,000/=. They had been given Motor Cycles on a loan basis. There are chances that the mental set up of our children being affected by learning in front of a military uniform.
Further the teachers teaching in the military Pre-Schools had been called for compulsory Army training. Those teachers are leaving their employment in the Army-run Pre-School, he said.
When contacted over the accusation of the MPc, the Army Media Spokesman Roshan Seneviratne firmly rejected the accusation and said that nothing of that sort happening.
