Constructing Hindu Temple in Chemmalai illegal: Vihare, Monastery existed 2000 years ago , says Commissioner

While saying in court that it is illegal to construct a Hindu Temple in Chemmalai, the Commissioner of Archeology,  Manthavala further said that, Buddhist Vihare and monastery existed before 2,000 years on the spot.

Kurukantha Maha vihare existed in Nayaru and several valuable artifacts and Monastery were there said the Commissioner of Archeological Department, Manthawela in the Mulaitheevu Court.

It is notable a Buddhist monk had occupied the premises of the Neeraviyadi pillaiyar Temple and had constructed a vihare there and had declared it open despite an order from Court to the contrary.

The case was postponed for 28th.
