Contravening the directive of the Chief Minister, CVK elect Deputy Leader of the House

Although the CM had issued a directive to suspend the election of Deputy Leader of the House, the Leader of the House has held the election in an authoritarian way .

The Deputy Leader of the House fell vacant by the death of Antony Jeganathan who died recently. Pandamonium reined in the house for around 2 hours and vote was taken for the first time in the history of the 63 sittings so far of the NPC.

Confusion and shouting prevailed in the house while election process was in progress in which Kamaleswaran was elected the Deputy Leader of the house, beating Ananthy Sasitharan by 5 votes.

At the outset of the meeting, a silent prayer was offered to commemorate the death of 2 students of the University of Jaffna.

 The Acting Chief Minister T.Kurukularajah submitted a letter of the CM, requesting the postponement of the election.

Lot of arguments and counter arguments were expressed. Sugirthan said that the deputy Leader of the house post was allocated to the Mullaitheevu district, but the post cannot be given to a person who lighted crackers on May 18th.
