The MPc, M.K.Sivajilingam has said that a copy of the Northern Provincial Council resolution, calling for International Investigation against Sri Lanka had been handed over directly the UNHR Commissioner directly. He announced this while participating in a press conference on Contemporary political situations, at the Jaffna Press Club, yesterday.
The Sri Lanka Government has not done anything to generate hope, within the 2 years grace period granted to it. In this context, a resolution was adopted in the NPC calling to subject Sri Lankan Government to International Judicial Mechanism. This resolution was sent to UNHR Commissioner by e-mail and post.
A copy of that was given to the UNHR Commissioner on the 9th by me. One minute time was available to me while handing over the Resolution. In that time I clarified to the Commissioner that, one of the 36 conditions set in UN Resolution no. 31/1, the “Non-recurrence” had been blatantly violated and it is in this context that riots against Muslim people in Amparai and Kandy had perpetrated.
In the One and a half minute time given to me to talk in the General Assembly, I clarified that the Sri Lanka Government is saying that it will not implement Resolution 31/1. Especially the President, Prime Minister and senior Ministers are blatantly saying that. I have said that the Sri Lankan Government should be subjected to an International Investigation and exert pressure on it to sign the Rome Charter.
I also said that this is the stance of the 1.1 million Tamil People. The NPC resolution will have an impact on the Report, the commissioner will table at the sessions on 26th, he said.
