De-mining on a slow pace in Muhamalai, Britain should help to expedite the work Minister requested

The District Secretary , Kilinochchi, N.Vethanayagam had requested the Vising British Minister for Asia – Pacific Region, Mark Field that, the demining work at Muhamalai in Kilinochchi is going on at a slow pace and that, Britain should help to expedite the de- mining.

Minister Mark Field , who is on visit to the North and met the District Secretary, Kilinochchi, N.Vethanayagam and the owners of land in Muhamalai on a field visit to Muhamalai. It is during this visit that the District Secretary extended the call for assistance.

He explained to the Minister the demining is being done with two Volunteer organizations and the demining is progressing on a slow pace resulting people being unable to resettle into their lands. While replying that it is their duty to find out and evaluate such situations and he had come there exactly for that, he also met the land owners of the area.
