Demand to release houses used by Police

The owners of the houses in Poonakary, Mannar and occupied for the last seven years by police have demanded that their houses be released and they be allowed to settle in them.

25,802 persons belonging to 7,370 families had so far resettled in the Poonakary Divisional Secretary’s area, coming under Mannar District. Apart from this 1,232 persons belonging to 346 families have registered themselves requesting permission to resettle in their own lands.

The police is in occupation of houses and lands of 4 families in Madduvilnadu, Poonakary, as from 2009 to date. The houses are being used as, police Station, Police officers billet and the SP’s office.

In this context the members of the above families are living with great difficulties with friends and relatives fo the last 6 years. Hence the affected people have demanded that their houses be released and they be allowed to settle in them.

It is also reported that, private lands belonging to 6 families in Madduvilnadu East area are in the usage of Army.
