A demonstration was held yesterday, 19th in Jaffna demanding International Investigation on the abducted and assassinated Tamil Journalists.
In this demonstration Organized by the Jaffna Press Club, all the Journalist factions of North and East participated and insisted on justice for abducted and killed Journalists. This demonstration was held to commemorate the 16th death anniversary of Journalist Nimalarajan.
Ensuring security at all levels to make the journalist work without threats and immediate implementation of Right for knowing information Act were among the demands made yesterday.
Earlier floral and other tributes were paid at the memorial for Killed Journalists near Jaffna Courts Complex. At around 10.30 am, the demonstration started in front of the Jaffna Bus Stand, and proceeded along Hospital Road, Clock Tower Road, turned at the Clock Tower junction retraced path to Bus stand and a meeting held there.
Kajendrakumar Ponnampalam,the Leader of TNPF and its Secretary, Selvarasa Gajendran, NPC members Vinthan Kanagaratnam and P.Kajatheeban were among the protesting Journalists.
It is notable that southern Journalists also participated in this Demonstration.
Although more than one year has passed after the present government had taken over, investigations on missing and Killed journalists of the South had been undertaken, no such investigations were made on missing and killed journalists of the North and East.
