If the border lands are not developed and our resettlement efforts moved towards the borders, borders will quickly move towards us enclosing us into a small circle, said the Member of NPC, Sivanesan speaking in the debate over budget proposals of the NPC.
It not justifiable to divide the budget amount in accordance with the amount of population, since the vanni areas have less population but greatly affected by the war.12,000 Sinhala families had settled down in the North within the 6 years after the war. Tamil people’s lands are being taken away and given to other people. Especially the agricultural lands and residential lands of Tamil had been grabbed from them and Sinhalese are being settled there. Although Tamil People are willing to settle in border areas like Thannimurippu and Aandankulam, they are reluctant to go there due to threats and lack of basic facilities in these areas.
More allocations should be made to the border areas and Muslim people should be settled back there , He said.
