It has been ordered that priority should be given to Tamil Language even in Name boards, in all Police Stations of North and East. As per this, Tamil words will be on top of the Board in future. Deputy IGP Priyantha has issued this order on instructions from Acting IGP. It is said that this is an action in accordance with recommendation made by the Official Language Commission of the last Government.

The recommendation relevant to this has been sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Order, and a copy was sent Acting IGP. In North and East where Tamil people live in more numbers, Tamil should take precedence the Commission had recommended.
