We Tamils, undertook great labour in bringing the president to power. But the Tamils are disappointed by the current political change. It will be difficult for the country to find progress until providing the political solution to Tamil people, said the Leader of the Opposition, Era Sampanthan.
The Leader of the Opposition Era Sampanthan said as above while speaking the National Deepavali celebrations held in the President’s Palace yesterday.
I have participated in three National Deepavali Celebrations prior to this and in each of those occasions I have placed forward request for providing a political Solution to Tamils where they could operate independently within an undivided country, before the next Deepavali.
A political change has occurred while another such occasion had come today. I again remind the President today the need for a solution for Tamil people.
We undertook non-violent struggles under the Leadership of S.J.V. Chelvanayagam. Later it was converted into armed struggle. But nothing came out of that also. We don’t want another war. But, although 10 years have passed after the end of the war, no solution has been delivered to us.
The country has gone backwards due to the War in the past. In a context where our neighbouring countries have achieved massive progress, our country is not seems to be travelling in the path to progress. The Country will not achieve progress until a political Solution is given to the Tamils.
Hence, we are placing our request before the President again, for political solution to Tamils before the next Deepavali . A solution should be found before the next Deepavali, he has said.
