Discussion demanding release of lands occupied by Tri-Forces in Mannar

A discussion was held at the Mannar District Secretariat at around 10a.m. yesterday demanding the release of Government, Non- Governmental and private lands occupied by Army, Navy and Police.

This conference was held presided by the Government Agent, S.Mohanras,  inviting Officers of Army, Navy and Police within all five divisions of Mannar District.

During the meeting the Government Agent asked as to when will the Army, Navy and Police will release the lands of Government, Non- Governmental and private lands and requested that the lands of the people should be released immediately.

The Army officers in reply said  that already 77 acres had been released and balance  lands occupied by them belong to the Wild Life Department and that they are paying lease to the Department and produced the receipts of lease paid. 126 million will be needed to shift from  the lands, the officer said.

The release of the lands in Manthai West Division has to be discussed with the Commander of the 66 Division.

The land on which the Police station is located belongs to Mannar District Secretariat and Gnanavairavar Temple. The OIC, Mannar police said that he will take up the matter with the IGP.

A Naval Officer from Silavaththurai said that the land is very important to the Navy and that it cannot be released.

Commenting at the end of the conference the GA said that the outcome of the meeting will be informed to the Prime Minister.
