Does TNA depend on not written agreements? Gajendirakumar responses to Sumanthiran

The non-written agreements that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has entered with the new government regarding problems of Tamil people which are just based on Trust only can not be trusted, Tamil National People Front leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam said.

In the past history we know what happened to even the written agreements entered with Sinhalese leaders. In this situation there is no use in TNA believing by entering into non-written agreements.

Gajendirakumar provided above statements in his response to the speech by TNA parliament member M.A. Sumanthiran on the non-written memorandum of agreement with the government and their support to the government based on the same.

When providing his response for Sumanthiran’s speech held at Jaffna  few weeks ago with the concept of “Path to solutions for Tamil people” held at Jaffna Euroville Conference Hall, Euroville Conference Hall, Gajendirakumar said further:

Because we have been fighting with government for Self-Rule, Sinhalese people have certain fear on Tamil people. This fear was not created by LTTE. This fear was from the beginning since ancient times. Mahavamsam is also indicating the same.

For Sinhalese, there is no other nation than Sri Lanka. But for Tamil people, it is not like that. The live in many countries worldwide including India. Hence Sinhalese have a fear that Tamil descent could swallow Sinhala people who are in slim minority within Asia. Hence Sinhala people have desires to wipe out Tamil race in Sri Lanka and take ownership of the entire country of island nation Sri Lanka.

Hence a resolution for this approach would be for Tamil people to obtain a country for their own. This was already said in the past by Father Selva in Vattukottai resolution on the basis of Tamil Eelam approach.

India had helped to obtain our rights and supported, but they had not supported Tamil Eelam concept. In Thimbu conference also, India has said Tamil people in Sri Lanka to come forward with a resolution for the problems other than putting forth Tamil Eelam demand.

If we look back the history of Tamil descent, we have always developed our politics with the demand based on Tamil Nation or Tamil Nationality. In 2001, a party with the name “Federation of Tamil parties” had later become “Tamil National Alliance” and contested in the elections.

People can raise questions about how this Sri Lankan government will provide a nationality when they don’t even agree with 13th amendment. Sri Lanka has to be recognized as a nation having multiple nationalities legally.

But Sinhalese descent always say that entire Sri Lanka is one country and Tamils living here are minority people. The ethnic issue also has an international view. Now severe geography based politics happen centering Sri Lanka.

India-Sri Lanka agreement has been brought for driving China out of Sri Lanka only. In this agreement, there is a specification of 13th amendment included. If we don’t agree to this India-Sri Lanka agreement, there was a situation of strong threat to national security of India. We are talking about that 13th Amendment today which has been introduced for other country’s benefit.

If a Third world war happens, in that Sri Lanka also will have a part to play. This is the situation with which Tamil people here are living. There is no use of toppling one leader and again bringing another leader similar to him. Leaders of Tamil political parties should have made this clear with people before Presidential election.

What is the political resolution for Tamil people after the past Presidential election? If again Rajapaksa has won, then due to pressure from geographical politics, Tamil people might have got Samashti based resolution.

But just based on oral promises, TNA supported Maithiri in this election. All here know what happened to the promises made in the past by previous rulers that North and East won’t be separated, Anti-Terrorism law is only for two years and so on.
