Sri Lanka’s former president Mahinda Rajapakse called on the government not to let any event commemorating LTTE and its leader to take place in any part of the island. Nor should LTTE flag be allowed to be hoisted.
Speaking to the media, he said:
My Government never allowed people in the North and East to commemorate LTTE cadres or raise the LTTE flag. Some people in the South have forgotten the importance of this week. In the past Prabakaran marked heroes’ week by attacking the south or some village. If the people are allowed to raise the LTTE flag it will be a case where we are falling on our knees before the LTTE.”
