EPDP Leader Jaffna Parliamentarian Douglas Devananda has expressed concern over the plight of war widows in the north and east.
Addressing the House on the Budget debate, he said:
‘The government should look after war widows in the North and East as they have to face hardships due to the loss of bread winners of their families.
The government should pay its attention to provide employment opportunities for war widows considering their qualifications, he said.
Around 60,000 war widows live in the North and East. But the two Provincial Councils have not taken measures to prepare a report on them after a survey.’
